MIWE Meiningen opens its doors for INDUSTRIE INTOUCH

Young talents experience technology and training at first hand

Meiningen, [11.11.2025] - Bakery technology manufacturer MIWE Michael Wenz GmbH, with its production site in Meiningen, once again opened its production  and training facilities for three guided tours as part of INDUSTRIE INTOUCH Thuringia South: two regular company tours and a special "trainee tour" aimed specifically at school leavers. This highlights MIWE’s commitment to attracting skilled workers, promoting hands-on learning and investing in the region’s future.

Insights from three tours - technology, training and day-to-day operations
The regular tours gave interested visitors a behind-the-scenes look at modern series production at MIWE’s Meiningen site, where the company’s baking stations are built - configurable in-store ovens used daily in bakery branches for fresh on-site baking. Participants were able to observe not only the precise assembly and commissioning processes, but also how customised solutions are created within an industrial manufacturing setup.

The trainee tour was specifically aimed at school students interested in technical apprenticeships. In Meiningen, MIWE trains apprentices in mechatronics. Training supervisors and current apprentices guided visitors through the production area, explained their roles and offered a hands-on look at day-to-day life in the training workshop. Direct conversations with students and their parents provided realistic insights and highlighted both the expectations and the opportunities that come with an apprenticeship at MIWE.

The event made one thing clear: MIWE Meiningen stands for high-quality technology manufacturing with global reach. The systems produced here are in demand worldwide - delivered to almost every country through more than eight subsidiaries and around 50 representatives. At the same time, MIWE remains firmly rooted in the region as a long-standing employer (for over 30 years) and is committed to developing skilled talent locally in a sustainable way.

What motivated MIWE to take part?
"We want to show that medium-sized technical companies can offer great opportunities - even here in southern Thuringia - for young people, apprenticeships, careers and life in the region," says Alexander Siemens, Head of the Meiningen site. "INDUSTRIE INTOUCH is a great opportunity for us to show young people and skilled workers what’s technically possible at MIWE - and how exciting it can be to be part of the production process. We want to offer insights, guidance and inspire a passion for technology."
MIWE uses its local presence to connect with potential apprentices, attract applicants and position itself as a reliable employer - not only in the skilled trades, but also in industrial manufacturing with a global footprint.

Feedback and outlook
From MIWE’s perspective, the response was very positive: a total of around 45 visitors took the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look during one of the three guided tours. The trainee tour in particular proved to be an effective platform for engaging young people with an interest in technology in a hands-on, practical way.

MIWE plans to continue along this path and integrate it into its broader efforts to secure the next generation of skilled workers. The aim is to spark early interest in technical careers and provide guidance in the career decision-making process.

Young people interested in mechatronics training, as well as potential applicants, can find out more about apprenticeships, internships and career opportunities at MIWE at any time. More information is available here: www.miwe.de/jobs
